Vintage Nivada Grenchen Glacier Compensamatic Diver withSigned Crown, NOS SUB Strap
Although the ETA 2472 automatic movement keeps accurate time over an approximate 36 hour power reserve period given its unknown service history a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended. This seldom seen vintage 1960's Nivada Grenchen Glacier, which came from the estate of its original owner, has a near pristine satin gray "SWISS MADE" signed dial. Majority of the imperfections seen are on the crystal, not the dial. The all stainless steel case shows honest wear with no visible signs of oxidation. The outer edge of the case back is stamped "COMPENSAMATIC SWISS MADE WATER + SHOCK RESISTANT ANTIMAGNETIC STAINLESS STEEL" with "NIVADA" followed by "GLACIER" stamped in the center. The inside of the case back is stamped NIVADA WATCH CO. " followed by "SWITZERLAND, ETA 2472" and "4316. The crystal shows scratching and dust/debris on its underbelly. The semi-quickset date function works flawlessly by manually rolling over a new date and then moving the hour hand repeatedly between the 20.5 and 24 hour marks until the desired date has been reached. After recently winding the signed, non-screwdown crown 39 full revolutions the movement had an approximate 36 hour power reserve period.
Given the movement's unknown service history (there are no visible watchmaker service markings on the inside of the case back or on the movement) a complete overhaul is likely long overdue and recommended. This watch measures approximately 36 mm excluding the crown, approximately 37.5 mm including the crown and approximately 18 mm between the lugs. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the mid-case, is approximately 7 mm. Including the crystal thickness measures approximately 9.5 mm. This watch comes on a NOS, fully pliable 18 mm SUB strap with signature "MADE IN ITALY" stamped straight edge buckle.
Given the movement's unknown service history a complete overhaul is long overdue and recommended. As such there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch. Vintage means old and while my personal belief is that old-school means better quality and workmanship, things can and do go wrong from time to time.
